Edwin Housley enlisted on the 2nd March 1916 in Perth, Western Australia. He was employed as a blacksmith, and stated his next of kin as his mother, Blanche Housley, of 8th Avenue, Maylands, Western Australia. Five feet seven inches tall, he weighed 125 pounds, had a sallow complexion, brown eyes and brown hair, and belonged to the Church of England. He had three vaccination marks on his left arm and a scar on his left shin.
